I am so excited! I just stumbled across a new pattern line and I could not be any happier. Jenny Rushmore, of the sewing blog Cashmerette, has just launched a line of patterns aimed at the full figured sewist. The line is called Cashmerette Patterns, and the first pattern is called the Appleton Wrap Dress.
Like Jenny, I am a big fan of the wrap dress. I have a couple RTW versions, but I have to wear a cami underneath because of my full bust. If I size up to cover the bust, I’m swimming in fabric everywhere else. The solution, of course, is to make my own, but I have been disappointed by the pattern options for my figure. It is frustrating to have to grade and hack a pattern to bits just to get something workable. It looks like this dress has potential to be a TNT for me with minimal adjustments!
The feature of Jenny’s pattern that has me so amped up is that her plus patterns, offered in sizes 12-28, are drafted from THREE different blocks corresponding to C/D, E/F and G/H cup sizes. I have 7 or 8 inches (depending on the day) between my high bust and full bust measurements meaning I have to do a honkin’ FBA on everything I make. With Jenny’s patterns, I can find something that requires minimal bust adjustment. Hallelujah! I think this is the only pattern line in existence to offer these kinds of choices to ladies in this size range. A few Indie pattern companies offer extended sizes, but also in different cup sizes? I seriously have tears in my eyes over this.
If this new pattern excites you too, go here to check it out for yourself! Put your money where your mouth is, I say. I just bought the pattern and hope to whip up a test garment in short order. I have high hopes and can’t wait to share the results. (By the way, I am not affiliated with Cashmerette in any way. I’m just sharing my joy.)
